A BUILDING, located off Jalan Kembangan, can almost be mistaken for a welcoming
primary school. Then, a little school-van comes into view with the words "Movement
for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore". In this school'fields and courts, balls do
bounce. They just bounce slightly lower and roll slightly slower.
When we say that you can make a difference in these students' lives, it is not just about
bringing smiles to their faces. MINDS helps these students become independent and
potentially find employment in sheltered workshops. On Saturday afternoons, MINDS
MYG volunteers accompany the students, reinforcing these life skills. Where resources
permit, the students are brought on organised excursions.
We are looking for volunteers to assist in our activities. We understand that charity is
always difficult when with the intellectually disabled- you are expending your time, to
students you may not understand and who usually cannot express their direct
appreciation or affection. But at the end of the day, is that not what real charity is all
about? Happy, innocent memories are yours to make. Do come down for our open
house to find out more.
