A Trainee's recount of his Kayaking Expedition experience
By Weng Siong, East Point

Charles Teacher guided me throughout the kayaking expedition. Earlier on, there were two pre-sessions on 27 May and 10 June. They were all held at Pasir Ris Sea Sports Club. The purpose of these pre-sessions is for participants to train up for the kayaking expedition. I learnt how to kayak during the pre-sessions.

The kayak expedition was held on 25 June which is a Sunday. All the participants arrived at the tentage. The bags were placed at Pasir Ris Open Space Shelter. We were seated in the tentage and waited for the Guest-of- Honour to arrive. The Guest-of-Honour was Mr Teo Ser Luck. Mr Teo is also a MP for Pasir Ris - Punggol GRC, Community, Youth and Sports. The weather was quite bad that day. We felt a bit worried as the weather was cloudy and seemed to rain.

Even though the weather was bad, the eight groups managed to reach the destination, Punggol Jetty. It is 6km away from Pasir Ris Beach. Each participant was given one plastic bag on that day. The plastic bag contained one muesli bar, some biscuits and one bottle of NEWater. Two groups set off at one time.

After reaching Punggol Jetty, I felt exhausted and hungry. I ate one muesli bar and some biscuits. I also drank one cup of hot milo and some water. We rested for an hour before returning to the starting point. Two groups set off back at one time. It was another 6km from Punggol Jetty to Pasir Ris Beach.

After reaching Pasir Ris Beach, we went for a shower. The start of closing ceremony commenced after everyone settled down at the tentage.

At the end of the ceremony, each participant was given a goody bag consisting of cereal, magazines and some gifts as a memento. I took one goody bag and went home with a medal.
