MYG Achievement Award - FY05/06
Extract from MYG Annual Report
The MYG Achievement Award is the highest MYG award.
It is given in recognition of the exemplary contributions of a
volunteer during his/her entire participation in MYG
The recipient of this year’s MYG Achievement Award is
Wong Marn Chee. Marn Chee has been volunteering at MYG for
9 years and holds the distinction of being the founding father of not
just one, but two MYG projects. Marn Chee is amongst the founding
members of both WE and TH projects.
He is a "big brother" figure to younger volunteers. During Xiaoqi's term as WE project chairperson, Marn Chee is on the
frontline to help out even before she voiced out her problems. Marn Chee is always willing to help out - Xiaoqi recalls how during AGMs
his is the first name to come up. When WE had difficulties filling up her committee positions, Marn Chee took it upon himself to talk
to potential candidates and persuade them to take up the position. At the same time, whenever he sees that a problem exists he does
not hesitate to voice it out.
Marn Chee is also actively involved in MYG's linkage with NCSS and is always helpful with advice on aspects
which might have been overlooked. He also plays an active role in the organization of overseas trips which have brought
many volunteers from West End together with volunteers from the other MYG projects.
