MYG Challenge Q&A:

What is this MYG Challenge?

It is a restructured series of our usual inter-project VA activities targeted at encouraging mingling and bonding between volunteers of MINDS MYG projects.

What is in it for us as volunteers?

The Challenge is meant to provide a platform for friendly competition among our volunteers without having to bring our clients into the picture. However, to stay relevant to us being a part of MYG which includes our valued clients, we're in the midst of getting MINDS' assistance in lining up prizes. Based on availability and also the eventual rankings of our projects, prizes will be awarded to share with clients during project sessions.

What are the pairings about?

Each leg of the Challenge (and we are planning 3) will see our 10 (8+2 autonomous) projects drawn into 5 pairs randomly. This is the furthest attempt we as organisers will take (as of now) to encourage inter-project mingling. Each game will see two projects contributing to the team representing them. Of course, we encourage further mingling while you're there!

How are the points tabulated?

Being the maiden 'season' of this restructured Challenge aiming to inject some continuity in future, the scoring system is still under testing. Each project will have points awarded during every leg of the Challenge, paired with different projects, over the year. The score for each project will be summed up at the end of the year. Each Win gives 20 points, each Draw 15, and every Loss 10.

How often are these legs held?

We will have one activity per quarter. The first was a low-key introduction of this Challenge in May and the last activity was MYG Bowling last quarter. Depending on the organising group each year, the activities may differ year to year.

How do I participate in MYG Challenge?

Just sign up with your respective project!

Any queries, feel free to send me an email.

TRACE NDP Fireworks Viewing

posted Aug 2, 2011, 3:30 AM by MINDS MYG   [ updated Jun 17, 2013, 8:52 AM ]

Event: TRACE NDP Fireworks Viewing 2011
Date : 30 July 2011
Time : 1630-2100 hrs
Venue: One Fullerton Rooftop

A special event organised annually by Terra Hope (TH) Project. This was the first time that this event was upgraded to inter-project level, as TH invited RO, AMK, CW and EP projects, bringing a total of 200 trainees, caregivers and volunteers to One Fullerton Rooftop. TRACE stands for TH, RO, AMK, CW and EP collectively.

The location of the rooftop was simply awesome, allowing a superb view of the Marina Bay area and NDP platform, keeping all of us busy clicking our cameras. We had a great time soaking ourselves in the pre-National Day celebration, enjoying the parachute display by the Red Lions, flag-carrying Chinook accompanied by Apache helicopters and the aerial display of F15 fighter planes. With the million-dollar-view of the spectacular fireworks lighting up the whole sky, excitement and happiness were written over the faces of our participants. Our trainees obviously enjoyed themselves, as their jubilation lasted long after the fireworks display.

A Big Thank You to our Sponsor: The Fullerton Heritage for generously providing the venue!

MYG Sports Day 2011

Event: MYG Sports Day 2011 :
The more we walk Together

Date : 2nd July 11

Time : 3.30pm-8.30pm

Venue: HortParks and Southern Ridges (Mount Faber Park, The Southern Ridges and Hort Park)

A short thank you from Sports Day Comm:
Thank you for attending MYG Sports Day 2011! We hope it had been a memorable day for u, as it had been for us.

Some words from MINDS MYG Chair:
For sports day, both trainees/clients and volunteers definitely had a great workout. I'm also impressed that many of our high-support trainees persevered and made it all the way from Seah Im to Hort Park.

Kudos again to all who helped out, not only to those who organised the event but for all the other volunteers who in their own way looked after the welfare of our trainees. The medics, logistics folks, volunteers who joined up mid-point (how in the world those without their own transportation could meet up with their projects at Mt Faber Hill, I've yet to figure out), and others who assisted trainees who were not from their own projects. I was heartened to see many of our trainees helping each other out during the walk as well.

MYG Learning Day 2011 and Inter-project Bowling

posted Jun 4, 2011, 11:01 AM by MINDS MYG   [ updated Jun 17, 2013, 8:49 AM ]

Title: MYG Learning Day 2011: Activity Therapy for Social Skills
Date: 6th August 2011

Time: 09:30 - 17:00
Venue: HomeTeamNS @ Bukit Batok
(Bukit Batok Clubhouse, 2 Bukit Batok West Ave 7, 659003)

Conducted by acclaimed creative arts therapist, Ms Caroline Essame. (the same therapist who conducted last year’s creative arts training)

The workshop combines the theory of social skills development and practical for a comprehensive understanding of Activity Therapy for Social Skills. Activities will be tiered according to trainees profile, thus the session will start off with group profiling at 9.30am.

Key areas covered:
- Building social skills through drama, art and bodywork
- Role play: Understanding group dynamics & tips for running groups

The venue, though a little inconvenient for some, boasts a large hall and 6 discussion rooms, which will be great for interactive hands-on learning with our trainer.

The session will end at 1pm and lunch will be served. There will be a choice of yummy Fish & Chips or savory Chicken Chop :)

There will also be an Inter-project BOWLING event, at the same venue, from 2pm onwards.

This time round, we've paired all our projects together to play against one another in a series of match ups. Each project will have 6 lanes, the score for each pair will be added up and pitted against other pairs and tallied at the end of the day. NO WORRIES, leave the maths to us! Just come down and catch up with us!

1) Terra Hope + Children Wing
2) RSPID + Basic Knowledge Training Group
3) Guillymard + Fernvale
4) Ang Mo Kio + East Point
5) West End + Reach Out

There will be prizes available at the end of the day for different achievements!

Interested MYG Volunteers, please inform your respective project chairs on your attendance.

For more information on Learning Day, please contact Daphne aka Hui Qi at 9047 9596.
For more information on the Inter-project Bowling Event, please contact Xiang Hui at 9824 6757.

Hope to see you there!

Words of thanks from our Training Officer:

Hello Volunteers!

Thank you for waking up extra early on this Saturday morning to attend our annual Learning Day. The record turnout of 90 volunteers is really encouraging, and I hope that you have gained some new knowledge, been inspired some new ideas and made some new friends. Most importantly, I hope that you have enjoyed yourselves today J

Thank you project chairs, for your enthusiasm and support for the event! This is my third year in the central committee as a training officer and year on year, the support from the projects has been increasing and I hope this trend will continue. Once again, please give me your honest feedback for the training activities so that we can continue to bring relevant trainings to the volunteers.

Special thanks to our dear boss, Gerald and VA Coordinator, Xiang Hui, who have willingly volunteered themselves to be my slaves for the event. =)

Mark your calendars!

Moving forward, the next training session is on 24th September @ SIA-MINDS. There is an orientation for new volunteers from 10am to 12 noon, and ACID Preparation Briefing from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. It is compulsory for each project to have some representatives to attend the ACID Preparation Briefing. More details will be sent out soon.

That is all for now and see you all next time! =)

P.S. Any volunteers interested to join me in planning the upcoming training activities? *Looking for a successor*

Words of thanks from our Volunteer Coordinator:

Thanks for staying behind to bowl too! I definitely didn't expect such a wonderful attendance today after the Volunteers' Activity last quarter at MINDS HQ. Then again that time was intended to be a low key event to prepare for today's event which can be considered high key. Very shocked (in a positive manner) with the eventual turn out, I gotta thank project chairs for going all out to bring all our volunteers together today and all the volunteers who came down regardless whether they actually bowled or chose to support their pals!

Hope you guys have enjoyed the bowling. Don't worry about the points thingy, it's just something to spice things up over the rest of the year. I'll tabulate the points table soon and unveil it ASAP! Ultimately, it's the fun and bonding with friends that count more than the competition!

Same as Daphne, please give me your honest feedback for the Volunteer Activities so that we can plan relevant events for us all. You can reach me at ALL FEEDBACK & SUGGESTIONS are appreciated! Next VA will be in November!

Date: 16 July 2011
Time: 0900 - 1445 hrs

Project IDentity is an annual event initiated by volunteers of Regular Service Project for the Intellectually Disabled (RSPID) from Welfare Services Club (WSC) in Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

For Project IDentity 2011, the main idea surrounds the use of a Befriender Walk to spread the awareness about the IDs. We hope that the public will be able to look at the IDs from another point of view, beyond the imperfection, to accept and appreciate PWIDs. Hence our slogan for this year’s event, “Embrace Identities – I walk, I see, I feel and I care”.
